The Wisdom of Mothers

I am in this glow of pride right now for finishing Brody's knitted baby blanket in time for Riana's baby shower. (I did cheat and use the knitting loom, but still I DID IT!) I saw a project through to completion and with in the deadline.
And now, I sit in my state of victory and wonder, "How did I do that?" And the only thing that I can come up with is that I followed a bit of Motherly advice and turned off my tv. That's the only explanation. I can't remember when I last sat down and watched a full television program. I didn't even watch the Super Bowl yesterday. I no longer have a set tv program that I long to watch. It's just so much better to wait until it's on DVD and watch the full episode without commercials.
Since this little piece of advice got me to such a great result, I've been trying to think up more advice that would help me. What do Moms always tell you? Chew your food, sit up straight.... Got any more? I want to really think about each, apply it, and see what happens. :) Another grand experiment.

You are just so full of inspiration tonight Gen!!! I'm gonna turn off my TV too. I've noticed that most of the time I have it on I'm not even in the room... it's just on for noise. I have an issue with noise I guess because I always have to have SOMETHING playing in the background or I'm singing... wonder what that's about? Congrats on the blanket!!! I know how fulfilling that is. Rock on sista!

Ok, here is a great one from my Mom, #1 "Did you drink lots of water today?", (even when I was younger and soda was the preferred drink of choice she was preaching H20, but the best one, and the one I have always taken to heart #2"What did you read this week, tell me all about it" luvya su.

ps, I am a NON Tv watcher also, why, read #2 above, I am always reading. :}

"Are you drinking enough water?" That is my phrase! At least, so the children say. My mom took the standing up straight to a new level. She told us to pretend we were holding a pickle in our fanny! Licia and I made a song up to that phrase, pickle pickle pickle, pickle in your fanny......
From my grandma it was "Never let the sun set harboring a bad thought" A great reminder to let go of issues that don't serve you.

"Always wash behind your ears" before a bath was common with my mum and one I will never forget that I still think to this day...every time I walk into a public restroom, "Don't touch anything unnecessarily" haha it still makes me smile :)

My mom always told me to "Walk softly," something her dad taught her. She never explained what it meant but as I grow older and have more experiences I think I know. Walk softly; take in the things around you and take care not to disturb what lies beneath you.

Ha.. Your comment, Riana, made me remember one my mom said: Walk softly - And carry a big stick!
Walk softly, take in the things around you, and if life turns on you, whack it over the head!
